New Year’s Resolutions 2011
I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions as I like to create goals for myself when I need to and not necessarily be restricted to a certain time of the year but I’m going to give it a go this year to see what the fuss is all about.
The List
- Lose weight: 2010 was a good year for food for me so 2011 needs to be an even better year for exercise.
- Read more: This is something I have managed to do already after buying an iPad as soon as it came out. The vast majority of my reading happened on a computer screen and now with Instapaper I can save my articles for reading on my iPad while relaxing on the sofa, in bed or on the tube into work. I now need to read more books of all types, not just web design related ones.
- Go on a holiday: My last holiday was to Barcelona, a good few years ago. I did go to Paris last year but that was only a day trip so need a proper holiday asap! Singapore and Iceland are on the cards for this year with New Zealand being talked about for next year and San Francisco the year after.
- Do more with Inspect Element: In my opinion, I was a bit lazy with my web design blog, Inspect Element last year after moving into London. So this year I want to dedicate more time to it and get it back on track and take it to the next level. Already have some great ideas for it so keep an eye out.
- Increase the quality of my tweets: Towards the end of last year, the quality of my tweets may have started to decline. I’ve noticed it and intend to be more positive in the tweets ahead. In my defense, I have to work with Dreamweaver and Windows during working hours so you can’t blame me!
- Revive notable play: An interesting one. I was inspired by TPUTH to create something similar for gaming news. I even recruited a friend to help but I became too busy to advance the project and we had to put it on hold. We may both be too busy to get it back up and running this year but we’ll see how it goes.
- Create something new: I don’t know what this is yet hence the vague heading but I want to create something new this year that I’m proud of be it web related or not. It comes out of a desire to me more creative again.
- Get into photography: I’ve always been intrigued by photography but never really taken the time to do anything about it. Hoping to change that this year.
- Learn how to develop for iOS devices: I love learning so have decided that I want to learn Objective C and start developing for iPhones and iPads. Right now it seems like an impossible task but I do tend to pick up new things quite well (famous last words).
- Improve everything I do: This shouldn’t really need to be a New Year’s resolution but I’m including it on here to make a point. There’s always room for improvement.
- Become No. 1 on Google when searching for Tom Kenny: A funny one to end the list. Blog post with details coming soon.
- And…: I have some secret resolutions I wish to remain private for now. I can’t make them public just yet as they’re a bit of a giveaway so I’ll let you know if I achieve them next year.
I think I’m being slightly ambitious with the amount of resolutions but I don’t think it’s unrealistic and hopefully it’ll give me the motivation I need to get at least most of them done.
