I'm writing a book called Photography for Designers. I'm writing it because I genuinely believe it can help people, specifically designers and those interested in design, through the fascinating art of photography.
That isn't the only reason though. I want to do something outside of my comfort zone. I haven't written a book before and have always thought I would never ever write one but I know I can learn so much from the experience and offer something of real value at the same time. It's a daunting task and as challenging and testing as it may be, I've already learnt so much in the time I've been planning it. I also haven't had a reason to write a book before. I once received an offer to write a book but the subject wasn't unique, so I felt I would just be repeating what many others have written before me. Photography for Designers is different. There isn't anything else out there like it and creating something truly unique is special.
I haven't really achieved anything of any great note in the last couple of years, mainly because I simply haven't been given the opportunity in my previous couple of roles. The only way I can really have something I'm proud of is to give myself that opportunity. What better way to do that than by writing a book? I'm truly passionate about all aspects of creating this book, including the planning, research, writing, editing, design, editing, publishing and marketing. Everything about this project excites me and I'm going to learn a great deal of new skills.
It will be self-published and released as an eBook initially. If it does well, I would absolutely love to get it printed and sell it in actual physical stores. My dream is to walk into a book store and see my book sitting on a shelf.
